How to Use "可是(kě shì)” and “但是(dàn shì)”

Hi everyone! Welcome back. Today we’re going to compare two words: 可是 and 但是. These two words have very similar meanings and similar character components. Both of them can be used to show the adversative relation between two clauses. However, they have different usages.
但是 and 可是 are interchangeably used as conjunctions连词 in the following situations to express “but”意思. Let’s see some examples.
When 可是 is used to show the adversative relationship, it is used as an adverb following the subject with the meaning of “indeed/truly/really”.When used like this the mood can sometimes sound a little bit ironic.但是 cannot be used in this way.
