Today I'm going to introduce two similar words 据说(jù shuō) and 听说(tīng shuō)。
据说: it is said; as the story goes; allegedly.
It means someone puts out his or her opinion or information according to other people’s words. In addition, it may be proved by some evidence.
听说：be told; hear of
It means someone expresses their mind just through hearing of others.
