Hanbridge Mandarin held a Chinese Food Culture Party on 28 September 2016. We introduced Chinese food culture and showed how to cook two special Chinese dishes, 麻婆豆腐 (má pó dòu fu) and 凉拌三丝 (liánɡ bàn sān sī).
麻婆豆腐 (má pó dòu fu) is a Si-chuan dish. There was a grandma who lived in Si Chuan. She sold tofu for a living. Her neighbor owned a store selling mutton. One day her neighbor gave her some mutton; she minced the mutton, and then cooked it with tofu. She added a lot of chilis. She gave some to her neighbors and they liked it very much.
The grandma had a pockmarked face, so everyone called her “mapo”. That’s why this dish is called “Mapo Tofu”. Many international friends like this dish and one of them try to cook this dish in the party by themselves.
凉拌三丝 (liánɡ bàn sān sī) is cold shredded vegetables with sauce. It belongs to Chinese cold dish, which is Chinese appetizer, usually served before hot dish. The cold dish stimulates people's appetite with its ‘color, fragrant and flavor’.
After cooking the two special Chinese dishes, all international friends have lunch together, like a happy big family. They talk, they laugh, Chinese dumplings and Shaanxi meat clip buns are the most popular Chinese food in the party. Hope this Chinese food culture party can let more and more international friends like Chinese food and have a happy time today.
