室内shìnèi: interior
装修zhuāngxiū: to decorate, decoration
平面图píngmiàn tú: ground plan
层céng: floor, storey
Here we often use “第dì”, a word used before the numbers.
“第dì+ number” is ordinal number. For exmaple, “第一dìyī” means “the first”. So“第一层dìyīcéng” means “ground floor”.

(I want to decorate my house.)
Zhè shì wǒjiāde píngmiàn tú
这是我家的平面图。
(This is the ground plan of my house.)
Wǒ xiǎng kuòdà wòshìde miàn jí.
我想扩大卧室的面积。
(I want to enlarge the area of my bedroom.)
Wǒ xiǎng suōxiǎo kètīng de miàn jí.
我想缩小客厅的面积。
(I want to reduce the size of the living room.)
wǒ xiǎng bǎ shūfáng gǎichéng yīngér fáng.
我想把书房改成婴儿房。
(I want to change my study to a baby room.)
wǒ xiǎng chóng xīn zhuāng xiū yíxià chúfáng.
我想重新装修一下厨房。
(I'd like to have the kitchen renovated.)
For some Chinese, especially for the old generations, Fengshui is very important in decoration. “风水fēngshuǐ” literally means “wind and water”. It is a kind of traditional Chinese practice of determining the location of a house, tomb, or other items that are believed to have a vital bearing on the fortunes of a family, owner, or user. Due to Fengshui, the re are many demands on doors and windows. For example, it is better that the windows of the bedroom are not big. Otherwise, the evil spirit will stay in the room easily which will have bad influence on the owner’s health.
